Red Berry Sangria
Published on June 2nd, 2010 by Alix
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Raspberries
- 1 Cup Blueberries
- 1 Cup Black Berries
- 1 Cup Strawberries, Sliced into Quarters
- 1 Banana, Sliced
- 1 Navel Orange, Sliced into Half Circles (Peel Intact)
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1 Bottle Red Wine (750ml)
- 1/2 Cup Spiced Rum
- 1 Liter Bottle of Lemon-Lime Soda or Ginger Ale
Directions:
- Prepare all of the fruit. Frozen or fresh berries are fine. Pre-sliced, frozen berries do cut down on prep time but sacrifice some flavor. Place the fruit in a large glass pitcher or scale the proportions to fit your container. Ours was an 80 oz pitcher.
- Add the sugar over the top of the fruit and mix. Add the wine and rum.
- Cover and chill in the refrigerator before serving or serve immediately with flavored ice cubes made from lemonade or fruit juice (regular ice cubes will dilute it). The longer it sits the more fruity the drink will become.
- Add the soda to fill your container to the top directly before serving. Ours took approximately 3-4 cups of soda. You can add more to extend the life of the drink or dilute it as it gets served. Sangria is the most fun when you make it your own way- so improvise and enjoy.
Note: If you don’t have spiced rum, try triple sec or any berry liqueur.
